Bill Raudabaugh
Woodworking
Bill has been interested in woodworking since junior high school. In the early 80s, he worked for Shopsmith Inc. and purchased a Shopsmith Mark V woodworking tool. He began making small gift items for friends and family, and a few larger items (tables, cabinets and shelves) for himself.
In the early 90’s, Bill and his family moved to Black Forest Colorado and Bill had a separate workshop built allowing for additional woodworking equipment. Following the Black Forest fire in 2013, Bill had a number of Ponderosa pine trees that had been killed by the blue stain virus from pine beetles. The fire had weakened the trees allowing the pine beetles to infest the trees. He saw the unique natural beauty of the blue stain virus in the wood and started making segmented bowls from these trees.
Bill retired from the software industry in 2023 and began making additional items. In 2024, Monument Mercantile began selling his work. Also in 2024, Bill joined the Black Forest Arts and Crafts Guild to sell his work.
The items made with pine are from the Ponderosa pine trees on Bill’s property in Black Forest Colorado. Other woods (fir, cedar, walnut, birch, maple, etc.) were either purchased or obtained from friends and family.
